Dry needling at our ReEnvision clinic, also known as myofascial trigger point dry needling, is a type of treatment designed to ease and treat myofascial pain. This form of treatment involves using a “dry” needle, one without medication or injection and inserting it into the skin and muscle directly at a myofascial trigger point.
Muscles can develop knotted areas called myofascial trigger points. Myofascial trigger points are tender spots in muscles and tendons where contracted fibers have irritated other fibers around them. Individuals that have trigger points often report pain that results in decreased range of motion. Other symptoms associated with trigger points include headaches, jaw pain, muscle aches and ringing in the ear.
In most cases, myofascial trigger points occur in our ReEnvision patients because of muscle overuse, muscle trauma, or psychological stress. Other causes of trigger points include:
Dry needling at our ReEnvision clinic is a treatment used by physical therapists to eliminate trigger points. Your physical therapist will begin by inserting a thin, sterile needle into the skin where the trigger point is located. When the needle penetrates the trigger point, it stimulates that specific trigger point, which helps draw normal blood supply back to flush out the area and ultimately release the tension.
